A big Bentley perhaps? Or a Ferrari? perhaps a sports car, or even a stylish vintage motor? No, even cheap pay-monthly car insurance site monthlypremiums.co.uk could get me a cheap quote for one of those. It's just as well - my favourite car is my Audi A3. The new 2016 Audi A3 literally wraps up everything I have come to love about Audis in a nice and handsome package. I love the composed ride; the steering is precise, while the fit and finish are outstanding. It's unbelievably smooth and impressive; perhaps the only mark is the rather stiff price I had to part with!
The best aspect about this car is that I am able to step on the pedal as I make a turn without causing any tire screaming drama. The shifts are silky smooth using the dual-clutch when in motion, though it does become rather lurchy as to I try creeping forward, for example, while trying to fit into a tight parking spot.
The A3 brakes are excellent and nicely grippy, grabbing after only a few inches of being hit. The car does not experience lots of dive either, as it has been sprung pretty stiffly. Changing direction is quickâeven when I am on the softer winter tyre compound, although that makes me feel any potholes within the cabin.
Getting behind the Audi A3 steering wheel is comfortable. The steering wheel itself has a broad adjustment range, and I can move the seat up and down, as well as aft and fore to suit my preference. I find it very convenient that I can adjust the seatback angle via a dial controller.
The dashboard of the 2016 Audi A3 appears sparse, but it's in fact brilliantly easy-to-use, with all the important switches and buttons clearly marked for easy reach from my seat.
The large windows and slim front pillars give me perfectly acceptable visibility. However, a relatively slim rear window and the thick rear pillars are somewhat of a handicap to my rear view.
The Multi Media Interface allows me control over the major functions through a central control dial plus a small buttons collection situated between the Audi A3's front seats. The display is on a 7.0in unit that is mounted in the dashboard centre, which if I want also slides down into the fascia.
In terms of fuel efficiency, under 3000 rpm along with early gear changes, I have on several occasions managed around 30 mpg. This goes higher on the motorway cruising, but when I hit the full 260+ bhp, I discover that the tank get depleted fast as the speedometer approaches the 155 mph top speed. However, with a sensible balance, I do manage between 25 and 27 mpg on the motorway.
Although the steering is a bit light, it is direct and quick. At green lights, I can swiftly zip off the yellow line, with the A3 turbocharger kicking hard in just about a second, powerful enough to get my head thrown back a bit.
I truly think that in nearly every aspect, the Audi A3 is an outstanding car. From this car, you get an economical turbocharged engine, strong refinement, and an interior that is beautifully built.
This is a car that practically meets your everyday needs. If you are like me and like owning an Audi, but on a rather tight budget, an A3 is your best option.
